I like photography that shows things as they really are. I like it to document what is happening at the time.
My biggest influence in photography has come from my friends and from studying the work of master photographers. I especially like the photography of Robert Frank and wedding work of Dennis Reggie. I try to remember them when I look through my camera.
To be a great photographer you need to only show your great work. I think that too many photographers show images that aren’t their best. That has been the hardest lesson to learn but one that I have to continue learning in order to be the best. It isn't necessary to be the best photographer in the world, because if you only show the very best images, soon people will think you're the best and that’s all that really matters. This is how I can guarantee that you will be completely overwhelemd with my work for you.
It's important to recognize a good photograph when you see one and besides just learning to operate the camera, this is the most important part of being a photographer. If you can’t recognize a great photograph, then you’ll never be a great photographer. That’s why it’s important to take classes, read books, go to galleries and study the masters. You just have to look at great photos and lean what makes them great.
My interest in music led me to a long lasting friendship with Catt Sirten who has taught me a lot about seeing, especially concert photography. Catt is the head of photography for the city of Mobile’s music festival “Bayfest”. I’ve been working with Catt for the past 9 years shooting top musicians. Concert photography in my opinion is the hardest genre of photography and has taken me several years to feel that I’m actually very good.
My concert photography skills have made me a much better wedding and event photographer.
As the Vice president of Mobile’s camera club "Camera South." I enjoy working with the people and get the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of learning and sharing photography tips and ideas.
I also work as Creative Director of the Mobile's Public Radio station, 91.3 WHIL. The station is licensed by Spring Hill College and allows me to work in an amazingly beautiful college environment. I am one of two campus photographers and shoot events such as dedications, dinners, parties, sports and lots of other fun things. I also have the benefit of going to College majoring in Graphic Design and will minor in Studio Art.
I am also a member of The Mobile Art's Council. I always try to find the art in what I’m shooting.
